Each year, the Department's Focus on Missouri Agriculture photo contest receives hundreds of entries representing the many facets of Missouri's farms, farm families and rural communities. After the contest entries are judged and displayed at the Missouri State Fair, the winning shots are displayed in MDA's home in Jefferson City, the George Washington Carver Building. We also use the outstanding shots in our publications, on our website and at special events.
This year, we took that one step further, entering some of our winning photos in a national competition sponsored by the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture (NASDA).
We're very excited to share some photo contest news we received this week. Specifically, that a photo we entered in that national competition was selected as a winner!
The photo of a toddler and a dairy cow getting to know one another was titled "Curiosity" by Jamie Patton of Maryville, Mo. when she entered it into the 2011 Focus on Missouri Agriculture contest. The photo was selected the 2nd place overall winner in the contest by a team of judges selected by NASDA.
Congratulations to Jamie on the outstanding shot and some additional recognition! To see the other winners in the NASDA Ag-tography contest, visit NASDA online at nasda.org.
And if you're more interested in checking out the outstanding entries in our annual contest, they're all posted on our Flickr page at flickr.com/moagriculture.
